Disability and Race Lab

ABOUT

The Disability and Race Lab recognizes that racism and ableism jointly shape how bodies are visible and which bodies are valued within society.

Scholars from across UCLA along with community leaders are examining disability and race through group discussions, events, film series, speakers, symposia, and reading groups. These collaborative activities examine the mechanisms, systems, and cultural norms that lead to the erasure of people of color in the disability narrative.

The Lab is advancing emerging areas of scholarship and activism on campus, and we invite you to explore the Lab’s recent events and to connect with us to learn about future events and how you can get involved.

The cover image for this page comes from Disabled And Here, a photo and interview series celebrating disabled Black, Indigenous, people of color (BIPOC) with different diagnoses (or lack thereof), body sizes/types, sexual orientations, and gender identities who reside in the Pacific Northwest.
