Recreation and Leisure

ABOUT

This focus area champions community-centered, inclusive opportunities for individuals with disabilities to engage in physical activities across all stages of life. The myriad benefits of regular physical activity, both individual and societal, are extensively supported by public health research and policy developments. Scholars in Disability Studies, alongside advocates, have consistently highlighted the critical need for wide-spread access in these realms. Efforts such as school-driven programs for accessible playgrounds and inclusive physical education teaching methods are gaining momentum globally. This Lab actively brings together people with disabilities and experts from domestic and international backgrounds to advance the conversation on equitable access to everyday recreation and leisure spaces.
