Recreation and Leisure
ABOUT
This Sport and Society Lab area of focus concerns locally based, community engaged opportunities for people with disabilities to join and participate in physical activity across the lifespan. The individual and social benefits of sustained physical activity are well known topics in public health and policy development circles; Disability Studies scholars and advocates have also long-since underscored the importance of inclusion in these activities. School-led initiatives for accessible playgrounds and universal physical education pedagogy have also begun to take hold in many places. This section seeks to bring together people with disabilities along with domestic and internationally based experts to further the crucial conversation about equitable access to everyday spaces for recreation and leisure.
